Portland's Widmer Brothers Brewing says it's the first Oregon brewery to join the Bonneville Environmental Foundation's Water Restoration Certificate program. The beer maker says its participation in the program will restore eight million gallons of water to Oregon rivers over the next three years. Launched in 2009, the BEF's program aims to replenish waterways by selling credits for businesses to offset their water use.
Data company TierPoint is embarking on an $8.2 million project to build a more environmentally sustainable data center in Spokane. The data center is expected to include a geothermal cooling system and a flywheel-powered backup power system.
Bay Area-based lighting systems maker Lumenergi says it's closed a $12.7 million Series B funding round from Braemer Energy Ventures, Townsend VC, Low Carbon Accelerator and Noventi Ventures. Lumengeri, which has been working on retrofits for the U.S. General Services Association, makes hardware- and software-based lighting control systems that it says can reduce lighting-related energy costs by up to 70 percent.
