The Environmental Protection Agency this week said it plans to propose a rule aimed at controlling waterway pollution from factory farms. The rule would require concentrated animal feeding operations to report on their manure generation, storage and disposal every five years.

U.S. Department of Energy on Thursday announced a new funding opportunity to speed up moving energy technologies from university laboratories to market. The $2.1 million Innovation Ecosystem Development Initiative isn't looking to fund specific technologies. Instead, it's seeking organizations that have developed innovative commercialization pathways, including connections to capital, entrepreneurial training for researchers, and advisory boards.

Meanwhile, scientists at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab are on a mission to create a new compound that would strip and store carbon from power plant smokestacks for carbon capture and storage projects.

Elon Musk, the founder, CEO and key financial backer of Tesla Motors, is out of cash, VentureBeat reports.
