- Researchers from Stanford University and IBM said Tuesday they've developed a new way of recycling plastic, such as in water bottles, that would allow it to be reused in the same form over and over again.
- After a steep decline in 2008 and 2009, job numbers in corporate social responsibility (CSR) could be on their way back up, according to a report from San Francisco-based Sustainability Recruiting. The report looks at more than 800 jobs posted since 2004, and notes an increase in senior-level corporate positions and demand for employees with CSR experience.
- San Francisco-based Lemnis Lighting, whose screw-in LED light bulb can be used to replace incandescent light bulbs, brought in $37.5 million in funding from undisclosed African investors.
- Arizona-based First Solar Inc. and Pacific Gas and Electric announced a 300 megawatt power purchase agreement on Tuesday. First Solar would deliver power from a planned 550 MW utility-scale solar photovoltaic project in Southern California, which is slated to begin construction in 2010. That brings First Solar's power purchase agreement total in North America to 1,700 MW.
- Research firm VentureSource released its list of 50 U.S. venture-backed companies with the greatest potential. Among the top 10 were Bay Area-based thin film company Solyndra and plug-in hybrid maker Fisker Automotive. Fisker, meanwhile, added $25 million in venture funding, VentureWire reported Tuesday.
