- GE landed a $1.4 billion contract to supply turbines and services to a planned 845 megawatt wind farm in north-central Oregon, the company announced Thursday. The $2 billion Shepherds Flat project—slated to be the world's largest wind farm after it's completed in 2012—is being developed by New York-based Caithness Energy, which has three 20-year power purchase agreements with Southern California Edison for electricity produced by the project.
- Meanwhile, at the other end of the wind energy scale, Pike Research this week released a report saying the market for small wind systems will double by 2013—from about $200 million in revenues in 2009 to more than $400 million.
- Pike Reseach released another report this week, which found that the number of users of home energy management systems is expected to grow to 28.1 million worldwide by 2015.
- SAP on Thursday rolled out a new software platform that it says can help businesses manage and streamline their corporate sustainability initiatives. BusinessObjects Sustainability Performance Management automatically collects performance indicators, and offers an overall view of a company's sustainability metrics, according to SAP.
- DIY alert: Los Gatos, Calif.-based Akeena Solar is rolling out its Andelay solar panels at 21 Lowe's stores in California. Along with integrated racking and wiring, the panels have built-in inverters, which eliminate the need for DC-to-AC conversion.
- Salem, Ore.-based potato chip company Kettle Foods is on the market for about $700 million, more than two times the price London-based Lion Capital paid for the company in 2006.
