HopStop skips ahead
As of this month, there are over 435 Certified B-Corporations from over 54 industries, and HopStop, the burgeoning provider of pedestrian navigation and mobile transit routing, has just become a newly minted member. In order to qualify for certification as a B-Corporation, HopStop had to demonstrate a high-level of environmental impact, philanthropy, diversity and social performance standards. It would seem a natural next step (or hop) for the company who has basically redefined the pedestrian experience in 57 major metropolitan markets throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe and Russia, to become B-Corp certified and make sure they are greening their own way, as much as they are greening yours.
Of the many tricks in the HopStop toolbox, their mobile apps, such as the ‘Top 10’ iPhone app, have become almost cult-like in popularity. One fan, @BeerIsMyChurch, tweeted, ‘THESE lists I can’t get enough of. New York City’s Top 10 Beer Gardens and Rooftops on HopStop.’
HopStop’s latest tool is a carbon emissions calculator tied to each mode of transport, which not only tells you the net positive impact of your greenest option, but calculates the number of calories you are likely to burn along the way. HopStop users can then view their total “carbon emissions saved” estimate atop the directions results page for each search conducted on HopStop.com.
The third HopStop innovation involves a crafty partnership with the Green Restaurant Association (GRA), and may even be ‘calorie neutral,’ once you’ve done all that carbon-free walking or biking en route. With the Dine Green Directory incorporated into the HopStop City Guide, you can map Certified Green Restaurants® within your path. GRA has helped thousands of restaurants to become more environmentally sustainable, profitably, and now HopStop is able to lead you to them.
We’re excited to see what HopStop develops next, and can only guess it will be a hop, skip and a jump in the right direction.
