Cleantech meets green building

A new consortium plays matchmaker between cleantech and green building.
David Gottfried

The U.S. Regenerative Network, a new business consortium started by David Gottfried, the founder of U.S. Green Building Council, is looking to provide a link between the worlds of cleantech and green building.

Architects might not be seeing what cleantech firms are up to, says Gottfried, who incubated the Berkeley-based network through his green building consulting firm, Regenerative Ventures. “We’re looking for green building plays in cleantech and bringing them together.”

Launched in May, the network includes about 20 member companies and about 60 affiliates. Member companies include product manufacturers or service providers, such as Interface (Nasdaq: IFSIA), lighting startup Redwood Systems, Autodesk (Nasdaq: ADSK) and carbon capture and cement company Calera. Affiliates include architects, contractors and real estate portfolio owners, such as Webcor Builders, Pacific Gas and Electric (NYSE: PCG), Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) and Gerding Edlen.

The network plans to have biannual forums to connect members and affiliates, and to allow member companies to share best practices and strategy. Both membership and affiliate status is by invitation only, and while there is no cost to affiliates, the for-profit network charges members annual dues, Gottfried says.

While the network is seeking more members and affiliates, membership is limited to one company per product or service category, while affiliate status is reserved for larger or “cutting edge” firms, Gottfried says.
